The Weekly Hop
Every Thursday: new places, drinks worth ordering, weekend plans. A two-minute read.
A month without alcohol, starting January 1. The UK charity now called Alcohol Change UK ran the first one in 2013, and it has since spread around the world. People do it to reset after the holidays, to save money, or just to see what a month of nights out feels like without a drink.
592 bars, restaurants and cafes in Greater Boston have alcohol-free drinks, read from their own menus. For the deepest menus, start with Rabbit's Choice: Cambridge Common, SOURCE and The Treasury. The map filters by neighborhood, drink type, price and what's open now.
Not always. In the US, a drink labeled non-alcoholic can contain up to 0.5% alcohol by volume. Drinks labeled alcohol-free or 0.0% have none. Dry Rabbit shows the strength a menu states, and the Strictly 0.0% filter on the map keeps only places with a drink labeled 0.0%.
49 bottle shops on Dry Rabbit carry alcohol-free bottles; they're listed on this page. For a start at home, the Bottle Shelf lists the alcohol-free spirits, aperitifs, beers and wines we'd stock ourselves, with where to buy them.
Every place on Dry Rabbit comes from the venue's own menu or page, which we read and link from its listing, and places we couldn't fully confirm are labeled. Rabbit's Choice marks the 32 places with a standout program: several named drinks, real range, and a recent menu. People can confirm a drink is still on the menu, and we read menus again on a schedule.
