Fluffle Punch

Rabbits in a crowd are called a fluffle. So is your Thanksgiving table: cider, cranberry, maple and rosemary, made the night before.

Alcohol-free. Nothing in it has alcohol.

Make it

You’ll need (serves 8)

  • 3 cups (720 ml) fresh apple cider
  • 1 cup (240 ml) unsweetened cranberry juice
  • ½ cup (120 ml) fresh lemon juice
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) maple syrup
  • 3 rosemary sprigs
  • 3 cups (720 ml) sparkling water, chilled

Garnish: Fresh cranberries, thin apple slices and a few rosemary sprigs floating on top.

Method

  1. Mix the cider, cranberry juice, lemon juice and maple syrup in a pitcher until the maple dissolves.
  2. Slap the rosemary between your hands, drop it in, then into the fridge for two hours or more; overnight is better.
  3. To serve, lift out the rosemary, pour it into a punch bowl around one big block of ice, and add the sparkling water.

Make ahead. Freeze a block of ice the night before in a loaf tin, with a few cranberries in it. One big block melts slowly, so the last cup isn't watery.

How we checked it

Dry Rabbit originals are developed and checked with AI, against the 42 tested recipes in The Dry Rabbit Cocktail Guide: sweetness and acidity per ounce, sweet to sour, dilution and the drink’s size against drinks made the same way, every ingredient’s alcohol, and whether you can buy it. One that falls outside the book’s range is reworked before it’s published.

The check’s notes on Fluffle Punch

A batch for eight, built like the book's Rabbit Punch and The Warren. Cider and maple bring the sweetness, unsweetened cranberry and lemon the acid: sweetness per ounce 0.14 and acidity 0.15 are a touch above the book's batches and inside the check's 15 percent margin (it is a holiday table); sweet to sour, 0.91, is in the middle of them. About 8 oz a serving over a block of ice, inside the book's 6 to 9 oz. Every ingredient is in a Massachusetts supermarket in November; cranberries are the state's own. 0.0%, so the whole table, kids included, drinks from the same bowl.
